How to Turn OFF Windows Defender Real-Time Protection

Simple step-by-step guide for normal users (with screenshots).

Important: If you have an antivirus program installed other than Windows Defender, you’ll need to uninstall it first.

Step 1: Open Windows Security

Click Start, type Windows Security, then open it.

Step 2: Go to Virus & threat protection

Click Virus & threat protection, then click Manage settings.

Step 3: Turn OFF these switches

Switch each item from On to Off. If Windows asks for permission, click Yes.

  • Automatic sample submission
  • Tamper Protection

After this, you may see warnings on the Windows Security Home page. That is expected when protection is disabled.
